MY ULTRALIGHT BACKPACKING SITE
|
Here I am in the Cliffty Wilderness, Kentucky |
Welcome to my site!
If you enjoy the great outdoors and the freedom that comes with backpacking then
you've come to the right place. You'll not find a lot of high tech stuff on this page but hopefully you'll find a bunch of
useful information and inspiration in the realm of ultralight backpacking. I've spent the last couple of years learning to
"Light'en Up" and if you are trying to do the same maybe we can learn from each other!
My first backpacking trip was in 1986. I used a Cabela's External frame pack, all
cotton clothing, and an ancient army surplus down sleeping bag that leaked feathers all the way down the trail. I was wet,
cold and hungry most of the week, but I fell in love.
Since that time I've hiked, backpacked, paddled and basically rambled from Lake
Superior to the Smokies and from the Allaghaney's to the Ozarks. I have not yet climbed a lofty mountain peak but I've fallen
in love with God's creation in the heart of our great country. The goal of this site is to share my transformation from a
gear head to a feather weight and maybe help you shed a few pounds too.

These are my two favorite boys in the whole world and my soon to be hiking partners!!! |

DISCLAIMER:
What follows are my personal observations/experiences with ultralight backpacking. Please note backpacking involves risks,
however small. Remember you must educate yourself and make informed decisions. If you will take the time to learn and
allow your skill to grow, then you'll enjoy a lifetime of adventures. So what are you waiting for, start hiking!!
Please take off your shoes, grab a cup of coffee and poke around the rest of my site. Hopefully
you can find something useful. I've had a lot of fun over the years in the great outdoors and my desire is to help spread
the joy of journey. There is no greater place to discover yourself and your creator than under the stars.
In the mean time, I'll see you in the back country.
